Slips, Trips, and Falls

People are injured every day as a result of slips, trips, and falls and the sad fact is that many of these accidents are caused by the negligence of third parties.

Slips, trips, and falls can cause all types of injury, from head injury to back strain, with varying levels of severity. Some people’s lives are changed irrevocably because they were unlucky enough to be a victim of someone’s negligence.

Sources of these types of accidents are varied in nature:

  • Trailing wires – Machinery or other equipment where a wire has been left in a hazardous position often causes trips and falls. Boxes and other obstacles are also the cause of many industrial accidents.
  • Spillages from machinery – Machinery requires lubricants to keep them running, often this can leak on to the floor causing people to hurt themselves.
  • Spillages from wet floors – Time and again no warnings are left stating a floor has recently been cleaned and as a result, people fall over and hurt themselves.
  • Spillages from food – Supermarkets and restaurants are notorious for not attending to spillages in a timely manner, and subsequently people slip over and get hurt.
  • Uneven pavements – Often paving stones have been laid without proper due care and attention, and subsequently become a cause of personal injury.
  • Potholes – Potholes are a constant source of personal injury. Each year local authorities pay out thousands in compensation because of potholes hurting people.
  • Litter – Litter which has not been tidied away can be a cause of personal injury, especially as it can become increasingly slippery in bad weather.

Perusing a personal injury claim

It is important to remember that personal injury claims can be pursued if it can be proven that another party was at fault, and this is why you got hurt. Frivolous claims of the past have been clamped down on, with strict rules in place for compensation claims to ensure an incident did happen and it is not a fictitious or trivial claim.

If it is suspected that a claim has been ‘designed’ to get compensation, the person could well find themselves being in court themselves.

In essence to pursue an injury claim, it has to be proved that you were hurt significantly and, that another party was at fault. If you wish to pursue an accident claim, obtaining the following supporting evidence and carrying out the following actions will greatly assist your personal injury solicitor:

  • Report the accident to your employer, local authority or supermarket. It is important a record is kept of what happened, as this is proof that an accident occurred.
  • Go to a doctor or hospital, so it can be proven that your injuries required medical attention.
  • Gather witness statements from people that saw what happened, and if possible take photographs of the accident scene.
  • Contact a personal injury lawyer to discuss your case.

Our injury lawyers will go through your case and, if they feel your compensation claim is winnable fight the case on your behalf.
